My daughter recently got married. Two months before the wedding she moved into the two bedroom apartment that they would be renting. When she moved in she began decorating with the art work that she had in her former apartment and arranged the furniture to her liking. They received the bedding that they had put on the bridal register for shower gifts, so she made up their bedroom. In the smaller guest bedroom she thought it would be fun to try some funky colors. Her husband to be thought they should do the room in black and white. He had black and white bedding from his apartment. He also had a black area rug as well as black and white vases and other accent pieces. My daughter was concerned that the black and white bedding would have a worn look because it is hard to keep black looking crisp and true to its rich color. The black and white bedding that her fiancé had was very high quality. She still did not like the idea but she thought she would set up the room and see what it looked like.
About three weeks after she moved in I went to visit her. I loved the spare bedroom. The black and white was very striking. My daughter used a great picture of a black grand piano in a white room that had a red rose lying on the piano. This created her theme of adding red accents to the room through the use of throw pillows and a few pieces of red glass wear. She painted an old dresser that she found in a second hand store white and two bedside tables black. The room was very inviting and warm. By using second hand furniture and inexpensive accents she was able to create this welcoming guest room with a very modest budget. She hates to admit it but she likes this room more than their bedroom in which she picked out the bedding and accessories.
