Mattress pads make your bed softer and keep you warm

by Mike Fisher

Many times when you think of mattress pads, you probably think of something that was on your bed when you were a child. If you live in an area of the country where it gets cold during the winter, this may be something you want to have. Not only will they keep you warm at night, they tend to make your bed a little softer and comfortable. The mattress pads I knew as a child are still around, but there are newer and more exciting versions available on the market today such as down, electric heated and waterproof mattress pads. If you have a problem sleeping at night, a pad may be the answer to your problem.

The mattress pads they make today are much thicker than they used to be and can be a protector of your regular mattress. You can still find the thin version, and this might be great for the summer months, but if you are having problems sleeping on your mattress, a thicker foam mattress pad might be just what you need. They have mattress pads made out of almost every type of material you can think of including down, egg crate, cotton, pillow top, sheepskin, foam, quilted and futon mattress pads, and all you have to do is search for what you want. If you like the feel of down feathers, you may be able to find a pad made out of them. If you’re interested in the new foam mattress on the market, you may be able to find mattress pads made out of this material.

You don’t want to make the mistake of buying mattress pads that you cannot clean. The tricky thing about mattress pads is that they are not quite sheets, but they are not quite mattresses either. They linger in between. They are not something you can just throw into the washing machine, for the most part, but they do need to be cleaned and vacummed on a regular basis. When you buy your mattress pads, make sure you know that they are made out of a material that can be cleaned. At the very least, you should be able to vacuum them as you do your mattress.

What you spend on mattress pads will depend on what type of material you buy. I can imagine that the new memory foam mattress toppers are quite expensive. While I am not sure what they cost, I am about to find out. My bed is old, and my back hurts every morning when I wake up. We cannot afford to buy a new bed at this time, so I figure a mattress pad and cover will have to do. I guess if I find that these mattress pads are too expensive, I might as well skip them and save up for a new bed. However, I don’t know how much longer I can put up with the bad back in the morning. No matter what your needs may be, there are mattress pads out there just for you.

Investing in Mattress Covers can save hundreds of dollars
My obstetrician recommended that towards the final weeks of my pregnancy, I put a mattress cover or some sort of padding underneath my sheets, just in case my water should break during sleep. I had never given any thought whatsoever to that, but it made perfect sense. Afterall, who wants to have sheets and perhaps even a mattress ruined from an accident. Our brand new mattress wasn't even completely paid for yet. I went out to our local Wal-Mart and searched for some mattress covers. I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive they were and purchased two of them. I also discovered that they came in crib sizes and purchased two for the crib as well. What a wonderful way to keep the baby from leaving any permanent surprises on the crib mattress, Read More...

What to look for when buying a comforter set
I am trying to make my daughter’s room something that she is going to like for at least the next three or four years. She loves the Wiggles, but the colors are not something that are very feminine. That’s ok though, because she is getting into a princess phase, and that is definitely something I can work with.
